Comic-con Part 3 - Ready or Not

Wow, Comic-con 2008 is almost here. Ok, take a deep breath, lets see...

• Passport with at least six months on it – check
• Plane Tickets – check
• Travel Insurance – check
• Accommodation booked – check
• A clear idea about how to get to the accommodation – hmmm, how big can the city be?
• Have registered my travel plans with SmartTraveller, just in case anything bad happens http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/  – check
• My travel papers are actually in order and are all together – ...almost
• List of publishers, editors, artists, writers and interesting people I would like to meet – dang, that list gets longer all the time.
• Comics anthology back from the printers and looking mighty fine – check
• Power adaptor for laptop etc – pending
• Comic-con program with cool stuff to do highlighted – pending (saving that for the flight over)
• A clear sense of who I am, what I have to say and why on earth a publisher would want to employ met – getting better with practice, always room for improvement.
• Practice at breaking the ice and chatting to new interesting human beings – check, have had a fantastic time at the Melbourne Emerging Writers Festival, the ACT Writers and Readers Festival, Australian Circus and Physical Theatre Conference as well as Pop Culture Conventions. I learn so much at every convention or festival about the craft and finding opportunities. Still scared, but getting better with practice.
• Website updated – check
• Roving International activated on my phone and my phone re-directed to another Australian number (this way I receive SMSs and have an emergency phone no matter what without heinous phone bill. I might still buy a cheap pre-paid while I'm over there, I'm not sure) – check
• Business cards and promotional materials in abundance – check
• A handful of US dollars and plastic cards that will work overseas – check
• Luggage packed – soon... note to self, it'll be hot summer and the air-conditioning might make it freezing or be hopeless.
• Make sure luggage meets weight limitations of the airline – pending
• OzComics Article written – check
• Other commissioned projects finished or in a good state to be left for a few weeks– check
• A tremulous feeling in the belly, combining fear and excitement – check
• To do list written – check

Phew, ok... I think that's it, although I'm sure I've forgotten something...
